Note about the title: In publishing, a "proof" is a copy given to the customer to show what their final printed product will look like. If the customer has changes, they send the proof back and the artist makes the changes and shows it to the customer, this would be the "second proof". Obviously, if a job ever made it to tenth proof -- and I've never seen them go past about four or five -- the artist would be tearing their hair out and drinking heavily.

Back in about 2000 or 2001, the marketing art director at the News-Gazette approached me about doing a cartoon for the company's monthly newsletter. Feeling inspired after a few years of working in newspaper layout, I gave her a few sample comics. She thought they were funny but probably not funny to an audience outside of layout/art people. So I shelved the project. At the time, I had not yet discovered web comics and therefore didn't know that there was a possibly untapped venue for a gag strip. I may still rework this someday; the art would probably be a lot better developed.

Anyway, I recently came across my sample comics and still found them amusing.
