9/11 Benefit Comics
New! (sort of) In 2001 I contributed comics to the Sept. 11 benefit books from Alternative Comics and DC/Dark Horse/Marvel. Proceeds from the books benefited World Trade Center victims. These were actually my first professionally published comics -- I'd done a couple issues of Raven's Children but this was the first time I saw my work in a professionally printed and bound book. Since these books are now hard to find, the comics are reprinted here for interested people to read.
Here is the Alternative Comics 2-pager: Page 1 and Page 2. And the Dark Horse submission. The Dark Horse one is in color ... I remember struggling with it and asking David Mack on his message board about techniques for doing watercolor on top of ink; I was all atwitter that he actually responded to me! Of course my work looks nothing like his...
A few years ago I explored the idea of doing a gag-strip comic about a group of newspaper layout artists. Here are a few of the sample strips.
Old comics from high school and before. Was it really wasted youth if I'm actually putting those skills to use now?
